Café Conciencia is a small non-profit organization in Quetzaltenango (in the Guatemalan highlands) that works in solidarity with worker-owned coffee cooperatives in Guatemala to help them achieve social and economic justice.
We accomplish this through:
- Economic development that supports community-initiated business enterprises,
- Community development that creates equitable and dignified living standards in the communities, and
- Education and advocacy that encourages international understanding and promotes fair trade and other movements for social, economic, and environmental justice.
What we do
- Fair Trade Organic Coffee
Through our Coffee Roasting and Microcredit Programs we help farmers create a finished product and earn more by selling their own brands of roasted coffee instead of just selling the raw beans. Read more
- Fair Trade Community Eco Tours
Through our Community Eco Tour Program we enable international visitors to learn first-hand about the struggles of worker-owned Fair Trade communities; see how coffee is grown, processed and roasted; and enjoy the natural beauty of Guatemala's wilderness, waterfalls, and volcanoes. Read more
- Community Development Projects
In partnership with local and international NGOs and concerned citizens we seek sustainable solutions to pressing needs such as access to clean water and construction of dignified housing. Read more
Please support our work:
Make a donation
Café Conciencia supports poor coffee farming families in Guatemala. We help them to help themselves, so they can compete more effectively in today's global marketplace and achieve dignified standards of living. Our work is impossible without your generous support, which goes directly toward funding our community-based projects. Less than 10% of donations will go toward covering administrative expenses.
